Confidence in hospitals ‘shaken’ after infection deaths, Health Secretary says

26 February 2019 – Belfast Telegraph

Scotland’s Health Secretary, Jeane Freeman, has made a statement to MSPs following deaths at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the Princess Royal Maternity, both in Glasgow.

Ms Freeman conceded that public confidence in the NHS has been “shaken” by the recent outbreak of hospital infections but she insisted that “significant progress” had been made in Scotland following the C.diff outbreak which contributed to the death of 34 patients at the Vale of Leven Hospital over a decade ago.
