Nurse spared jail after pocketing £25,000 from NHS job she had left

26 February 2019 – Telegraph

A nurse who kept quiet about being paid double her wages by the NHS for nearly 18 months escaped jail after admitting theft.

Sarah Merry, 35, received over £25,000 as she continued to receive her monthly wages for a hospital job she was no longer doing and failed to tell her former bosses about the payments. She spent the money on family trips abroad and watching football and rugby.

A court heard the blunders were only discovered when health chiefs carried out a review into salary payments which led to NHS Counter Fraud specialists carrying out an investigation.
