World’s first medically-certified asthma monitoring device sets sights on NHS approval

26 February 2019 – IINews

A smart asthma detector which plugs into a user’s smartphone through its headphone jack could help to predict a potential attack up to seven days in advance.

Blowing full force into the plastic Smart Peak Flow mouthpiece when connected to a smartphone allows sensors and a paired app to record the user’s lung function over time. The app then displays a chart predicted the risk of a pending attack, comparing the measured breath to the user’s ‘personal best’ result of a fully opened airway, and providing a red, (0 – 60 per cent capacity) yellow (between 60% and 80% capacity) or green (80%+ capacity) reading of how constricted their breathing is.
