Epsom General Hospital boss defends sale of land for £18 million

26 March 2019 – Get Surrey

The Chief Executive of Epsom General Hospital has defended his decision of selling land to a developer for £18 million despite concerns the plot could be sold on again for more money.

Some are worried that without a contractual agreement the new owners could sell it on without anything binding them to keep it for health or social care provision.

Daniel Elkeles, Chief Executive of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, said after costs, the sale unlocked £15m which can be reinvested in the hospital.
