Care home companies ‘leaving Yorkshire for more lucrative South’

09 April 2019 – Yorkshire Post

Vulnerable elderly people in Yorkshire face a lack of residential care home places as private providers focus their business on the “more lucrative” south of England according to Andrew Balchin, the officer in charge of social care at Wakefield Council. He said some providers are no longer doing business in the north because customers cannot pay as much as those elsewhere.

Wakefield Council itself has seen a 9% year-on-year rise in demand for its help according to the latest figures.
