Scottish officials refuse to approve two life-extending cystic fibrosis drugs for use on the NHS ‘because they are too expensive’

Two drugs that could potentially extend the life of people who have cystic fibrosis have been rejected for use in Scotland.

The Scottish Medicines Consortium heard ‘powerful testimonies’ from patients and doctors about the potential benefits of Orkambi and Symkevi but body ruled them out, saying there were too many doubts about whether the drugs would prove cost-effective.
