Superbug C. difficile is evolving to ‘spread in hospitals and feeds on the sugar-rich Western diet’

12 August 2019 – Daily Mail

Scientists from the Wellcome Sanger Institute and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine discovered that C.diff, which can cause diarrhoea, is gradually ‘splitting’ into two species.

This new bug spreads easily, is ‘immune’ to disinfectants and flourishes on the Western diet of sugary foods.

It is thought to have emerged thousands of years ago and could be responsible for more than two-thirds (70%) of the C.diff infections in hospitals today.
