Mentally ill in Lancashire ‘detained’ for too long, say CQC

A new report by CQC inspectors have found that staff at Lancashire Care Foundation Trust were detaining patients in ‘health-based places of safety’ past the expiry time of a section 136.

Section 136 of the Mental Health Act gives the police the power to remove a person from a public place, when they appear to be suffering from a mental disorder, to a place of safety.
