Child sex abuse inquiry: Victims with criminal records denied compensation

19 September 2019 – BBC News

The Independent Inquiry on Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) has found that survivors with criminal convictions are denied compensation or have payouts cut.

The inquiry called for the compensation scheme to recognise that abuse can directly contribute to offending.  It found that the criminal and civil justice systems are unable to provide redress for victims of abuse, often leaving them “retraumatised” and missing out on compensation.
