Rugby world cup a tonic for mental health and dementia says top NHS doctor

England’s top dementia doctor says watching classic rugby matches can be particularly useful for older sports fans and people with dementia as it can keep the brain active and stimulate past memories.

Professor Alistair Burns says simple ways to manage mental wellbeing and dementia during older age can be vital to millions of people, as the NHS in England delivers its Long Term Plan to improve dementia services and tries to meet demand for care from record-high diagnoses of the disease by the health service.
