Nurse who fell asleep on job struck off after incidents at Plymouth care home

29 September 2019 – Plymouth Herald

A nurse who was in sole care of vulnerable patients in a Plymouth city care home was struck off after she was found to have fallen asleep on the job, missed one of them falling and failed to give another their medicine.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council held a misconduct hearing in August into the conduct of registered nurse Octavia Thembie Nkwanyana while she worked at charity care home Torr Home in The Drive, Hartley.

Panel members heard how Ms Nkwanyana’s fitness to practise had been impaired by her actions and, after a 12 month long suspension order which was originally imposed on 04.09.2018, she would be struck off the register from 04.10.2019 this year.
