Psychiatrist vacancies ‘threaten’ NHS transformation

07 October 2019 – BBC News

The number of vacancies for psychiatrists has doubled in six years – and is particularly prevalent in children’s services, according to the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

One in 10 consultant posts – 568 out of 5,730 – is vacant, up from one in 20 in 2013, according to a census by the college.

The Government pledged an extra £2.3bn a year by 2023-4 to improve care but the College said the plans to transform mental health services will fail unless this is rectified.
