NHS England proposes fortnightly GP care home visits

03 January 2020 – Care Home Professional

NHS England has revealed new plans for GPs to visit care homes at least every fortnight from September 2020 under new requirements revealed by NHS England.

The Primary Care Networks Specifications have proposed that GPs work with community services to provide enhanced health in care homes, including a weekly ‘home round’, which may be led by a suitable clinician, as well as a GP-led visit carried out “at least” every fortnight.

The proposals followed a vote by GPs in November to remove care home visits from their core work (see Care England slams GPs vote to remove home visits from core work).
