Children’s care system ‘in crisis’ as cases hit 10-year high amid ‘unprecedented demand’

09 January 2020 – Sky News

Ministers are being advised by the Children’s Commissioner to launch an independent review after the number of children in care rises by over a quarter in 10 years.

The Government has been warned that the children’s care system is in crisis after cases hit a 10-year high amid “unprecedented” and “unsustainable” demand.

Official data collated by the Local Government Association (LGA) show there were 78,150 children in care in England at the end of March 2019 compared with 60,900 children in care at the same point a decade earlier, according to LGA.
