More than one million patients fail to turn up to their GP appointments every month – costing the NHS £200m a year

12 January 2020 – Daily Mail

Over a million patients are not attending their GP appointments every month resulting in the cost to the NHS to escalate to £200million a year.

There are around 307 million consultations scheduled with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals every year, but 5% of these – one in 20 – are being missed without notice, meaning that 15.4 million appointments are wasted.

Just under half of these, 7.2 million, were with busy family doctors.
