Dame Sally Davies, the Government’s Special Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance, is leading calls for the NHS to start recording accurately whether patients die due to a superbug.
She says doctors are not writing it on death certificates for fear of blame. Her warning came after data found that the most deadly infections by drug resistant-superbugs have risen by almost a third in five years.
165 new antibiotic-resistant infections are detected every day.
