Dementia patients refused by some care homes over lack of funding

24 January 2020 – Wakefield Express

Privately run homes in Wakefield are paid the same amount of money for looking after a resident placed with them by the local council, regardless of how difficult their needs are.

However, some providers are starting to declined some elderly patients with serious problems because they feel they’re not getting enough money to cover the running costs of their care.

The National Care Association, which represents providers, said they were being left “underfunded” by local authorities across the UK.
