D-Day hero died after care home staff waited days to call in doctor

21 February 2020 – Express

A D-Day veteran with a broken hip died after care home staff held back from taking him to hospital for four days after his 11th successive fall.

Harry Trimmings, 93, complained about leg pain after the accident and his family raised concerns with staff but the inquest heard the home failed to report his discomfort to a doctor, blaming it on arthritis and the grandfather died a month later.

The assistant coroner James Dillon ruled that the injury contributed to widower Mr Trimmings’s death and criticised the home for not following its own procedures.

The hearing was told five staff at Bradbury Grange residential home, including two managers, later resigned after an internal inquiry.
