NHS launches ‘drive-thru’ coronavirus testing to swab suspected cases in their cars

23 February 2020 – IINews

The NHS is asking people suspected to have contracted coronavirus to drive to health centres to be swabbed through their car window.

Nurses in Hazmat suits can then swab arrivals to health centre car parks through a rolled-down window to avoid extra strain on ambulance services. Ambulances are required to disinfect vehicles fully after carrying a suspected case, this process can take up to eight hours.

Central London Community Healthcare NHS trust will be the first to launch the ‘drive-thru’-style test in the car park of its Parsons Green Health Centre in west London on 24.02.2020.
