Bolton patients will no longer be offered this ‘unnecessary’ surgery on the NHS

24 February 2020 – Manchester Evening News

Fewer people with gallstones will be eligible for surgery on the NHS according to Bolton’s health commissioner due to a restricting of unnecessary treatment. Patients who have gallstones but no pain or other symptoms will no longer have their gall bladder removed.

In some cases where there are symptoms, patients will not be offered the procedure if it is deemed too risky.
