The NHS is set to treat coronavirus patients in a makeshift field hospital in the ExCeL Centre in East London.
The exhibition space has been used in the past for Crufts and Comic Con, has capacity for up to 4,000 patients.
The temporary base has been nicknamed the Nightingale Hospital and will be staffed by NHS medics with the help of the military.
It will initially provide about 500 beds equipped with ventilators and oxygen.
